Chapter 6
Jerome was waiting outside the theater, ready for a relaxing evening. I hoped that I wasnât making a mistake by letting my guard down.
âYou made it. What kind of movie do you want to watch?â He gave me a quick hug.
âSomething light and funny, no death or guns involved,â I sighed wearily.
âThereâs a comedy starting in ten minutes,â he suggested.
âDone.â I handed the ticket seller behind the glass my card.
I scooped up the tickets and headed straight to the ticket taker, but he put a hand on my arm. âDonât you want something to snack on?â
A few minutes later, we were settling into our seats with drinks and popcorn.
âThis is so weird. Iâm not used to going to the movies with a guy.â I placed my drink opposite Jerome, and turned back to find the armrest gone.
âI thought you could be more comfortable without it there.â
âSo is this your way of sliding an arm behind me when you stretch?â I grinned at his none too subtle attempt for us to get closer.
âItâs not like we have a lot of people watching what weâre doing.â
âAll right.â I surprised myself by leaning my head on his shoulder and putting my feet up on the seat in front of me.
Three previews later, and I remember shaking my head, knowing Iâd dozed off for a second.
âWhat did I miss?â I sat up, trying to wake up.
âOnly the entire movie.â He grinned as the lights came on.
âYouâre serious?â I slapped at his arm. âWhy didnât you wake me up?â
âReally? I knew you were exhausted and needed the sleep. Plus, itâs been a while since Iâve had a girl curled up in my arms. It was nice,â he answered sheepishly.
Stretching, I managed to get most of the kinks of my shoulders and neck. âNow that Iâm awake, do you want to get dinner?â
âIf you donât think itâs too forward, Iâd like to pick up something and go back to my house. You mentioned you needed to do some research, and thatâs what I do for a living. So maybe we can eat while you get some insight into your case,â Jerome offered generously.
âWow! That would be amazing. I also promise I wonât fall asleep on you after dinner.â
âGreat, itâs decided then. I know just the place and can call an order in while you drive over to pick it up.â
âThis dating thing might not be as bad as Iâd thought when I signed up for it.â
